Overview
Adam Wood is the bookcase that Philippe Starck designed for Kartell, which the brand calls its first real bookcase for living areas. The model shown is the single bay of five 90 cm shelves on two struts, item 08914BB (code 8914).
Construction
The shelves are curved wood, the supports are mass-dyed thermoplastic technopolymer and the struts are painted steel. Kartell shaped the shelves and the 3-D painted steel frame with CAD systems to reduce the material and energy used. Units can stand beside one another, and the shelf heights can be varied.

Story
Optimised by CAD
Kartell describes Adam Wood as a bookcase whose curved wooden shelves and 3-D painted steel frame were optimised with CAD systems. The aim was to use less material and energy and still obtain an elegant, robust structure, and Kartell calls it super-lightweight.
Built to be extended
Kartell says Adam Wood can be put up very quickly. Its modularity lets bookcases stand beside one another to add storage, and the shelf heights can be varied to suit different configurations. The single bay of five shelves measures 99 x 37 x 215 cm.
