Description

Overview

The 375 Relaxchair is a lounge armchair from the 375 family, designed by the Walter Knoll Team. In the brand's words it is a modern counterpart to the elegant mid-century armchair, suited to living rooms, libraries, lobbies and receptions.

Construction

The seat has a wooden frame and the back a steel frame, on a solid wood base with an oil and hard wax finish. The seat upholstery sits over webbing with a cold foam core, and the back upholstery is moulded foam, both with a polyester fiber wrap. Piping runs all round, and the cover can be fabric, leather or a combination.

Specifications

  • Model 377-10: 66 x 83 x 105.5 cm
  • Base woods: oak white pigmented, oak burned, nutwood with sapwood inclusions
  • Piping: same color as a fabric cover; other leather color for a surcharge
  • Optional: decorative cushion with down filling and saddle leather buttons

Story

A character piece for the 375 family

The classic 375 series was to be extended with a new character piece, and that the team shaped the chair to match the design philosophy of the 375 family. Jürgen Röhm, Head of Research and Development, is quoted: "We have given the Relaxchair a shape that shows exactly what it is intended for: relaxing and musing."

Shape for relaxing

The convex curve in the head area is a relaxed counter-movement to the curve of the armrest, and the all-round piping emphasizes the shape. The result is described as an elegant cocoon and a calming retreat for individualists.
