Biography
Background
Victor Vasilev was born in 1974 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and at the age of 15 his family moved to Israel. In 1996 he went to Milan to study architecture at the Politecnico, and he spent a year as an exchange student at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. After his studies he stayed in Milan and started his own practice in 2004.
Signature Style
His design ideas are inspired by the continuous search for formal and material purity. The time in Denmark left a deep mark: the work of Nordic architects, in building and in product design, influenced him strongly. The proposals of his studio draw on solutions developed for the domestic environment, which are a major part of its commissions.
Notable Works
For Living Divani he designed Bukva (2011), a sculpture-bookcase composed of a series of squared, detached and tangent elements, and the B2 and B3 pieces. Other collaborations include Flaps for Antrax IT, CTline for Boffi, Mamba for MDF Italia, SuperLuna for Oluce and Eccentrico for Falper. His first prize in 2010 came in the Dressed Stone design competition run by Antonio Lupi and Marmotech Carrara.
Legacy
His awards run from 2012 to 2019: the Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum of Design in 2012 and 2014, the Interior Innovation Award from imm Cologne in 2013 and 2014, the ADI Design Index in 2013, the German Design Award in 2018 and the Design Plus Award at ISH in 2019.
