Biography

Background

Giopato & Coombes is a lighting studio led by Cristiana and Christopher, based in a restored Venetian villa with its stables in Treviso. Its own account starts in 2014, when its designers wanted a more fluid approach to research, design and product creation, independent from brief to market. It keeps galleries in Milan and Paris.

Signature Style

The study of the behaviour of light is the foundation of every project, from sculptural intelligence to the emotional sphere. A walk along London's South Bank among hundreds of soap bubbles became a lighting creation crystallised in glass and brass.

Notable Works

  • Grace chair for Living Divani (2013)
  • A twenty-nine-metre custom Cirque chandelier for the Monograph Hotel in Georgia (2019, with Proact Studio)
  • Cirque pendants for a penthouse by Gudbjørg Simonsen (2023)
  • Flauti wall lights and a Gem chandelier for La Granada by LALA Reimagined (2022)

Legacy

The manifesto speaks of designing lamps to be passed onto future generations. Eighteen commissions, private and public, are listed on its site.
