Biography
Background
Dan Grabowski was born in Detroit, Michigan, and attended The College for Creative Studies, which Knoll describes as a leading school for automotive design in the United States. As a student, he studied Harry Bertoia's work and became interested in making objects that were both beautiful and functional.
From products to furniture
Early in his career, Grabowski designed consumer goods including power tools and infant-care products. He later moved into furniture design, where he found a particular interest in case goods. Knoll connects this focus on carefully resolved storage and office furniture to the refined aesthetics of Cove Collection by Knoll.
Design approach
The saved Knoll profile presents attention to small details and a balance between function and beauty as central to Grabowski's practice. His Cove design combines a slim profile, beveled edges, concealed cable management and a plinth base with a broad set of workplace components. The result is a system that can be configured across private offices and shared work settings.
