Biography

Background

Bruno Munari was born in Milan in 1907. Zanotta records his early participation in the Futurist movement and exhibitions, followed by work in publishing and magazine art direction from 1939 to 1945.

Art, graphics and learning

Munari wrote children's books while working with Mondadori and Tempo. In 1948 he founded the Concrete Art Movement, which promoted geometrically oriented non-figurative art independent of imitation.

A broad creative practice

Zanotta describes his contribution across painting, sculpture, film, industrial and graphic design, writing, poetry and teaching. Movement, light, play and childhood creativity were recurring subjects of that research.

Singer for Zanotta

Zanotta credits Munari with Singer, designed in 1945. The signed chair turns the duration and social character of a visit into the premise for an art object.
