Biography
Background
Börge Lindau (1932–1999, born in Åhus) and Bo Lindekrantz (1932–2020, born in Mölndal) were Swedish interior architects and furniture designers. They ran a joint office in Helsingborg from 1964 to 1986; one of their first commissions was the interior of the Form/Design Center in Malmö. Lindau studied at Slöjdföreningens skola in Gothenburg.
Signature Style
Their furniture for public spaces often built on classic precedents, among them the tubular steel furniture of the Bauhaus. The S70 series of 1968 made large-diameter steel tubing and bold colours its defining features.
Notable Works
- Ritz and Royal chairs (1965), their first designs for Lammhults
- S70 series (1968), including the S70-3 barstool and S70-12 coat hanger
- Planka chair, X75-2 armchair, S70-4 & S70-5
Legacy
Over twenty years with Lammhults they created scores of designs that made the company a reference point for Scandinavian design, and they received the Lunning Prize in 1969. After 1986 Lindau founded Blå Station, while Lindekrantz continued working with Lammhults. Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and Röhsska museet in Gothenburg hold Lindekrantz's furniture.
