Description

Overview

The S70-3 is a barstool by Börge Lindau & Bo Lindekrantz for Lammhults, designed in 1968 as part of the S70 series. Its frame is made of large-diameter steel tubing. Lammhults describes it as the fresh face of Lammhults design, decade after decade.

Construction

The frame is 32 mm chromium plated or powder coated steel tubing; the footrest is always in chrome. The seat is plywood with birch veneer, supplied natural or lacquered in black, white or grey (other colours on request), or as an upholstered seat in fabric or leather. The stool is stackable and can be suspended from a table.

Story

A Series Named After Its Tubing

Lammhults launched the S70 series in 1968 with 12 items, from ashtrays and coat hangers to tables and chairs. What set the series apart, visually and structurally, was thick steel tubing, which is where the name comes from; the Environmental Product Declaration calls the large diameter a radical departure.

Colour and Recognition

Together with a range of bold colours, the heavy tubing brought instant global recognition to the series and to Lammhults. Of the original twelve pieces, the page names the S70-12 coat hanger as still in production and lists the S70-4 and S70-5 in the same family, and the S70-3 barstool is still presented by Lammhults as the fresh face of its design.
