Biography
Background
BIG-GAME is a design studio founded in 2004 in Lausanne, Switzerland, by Augustin Scott de Martinville (Swiss and French, born 1980), Grégoire Jeanmonod (Swiss, born 1978) and Elric Petit (Swiss and Belgian, born 1978). Scott de Martinville and Jeanmonod studied at ECAL / University of Art and Design Lausanne; Petit studied industrial design at La Cambre in Brussels. The three founders also teach at ECAL, and the studio works with a team of five to seven people.
Signature Style
The studio describes its work as simple, functional and optimistic: accessible, charming and above all useful. Its designers take ideas from a large repertory and set them offhandedly in unexpected situations, with the credo "Confrontation is giving birth to progress".
Notable Works
For Karimoku New Standard, BIG-GAME designed the Castor series, including the stackable oak Castor Chair (iF design award 2013, Good Design Award 2014), as well as G-WOC, Signs and the Prop storage range. The studio has worked with Alessi, Hay, Muji, Lexon, Nespresso, Moustache, Muuto and 2016/.
Legacy
BIG-GAME's works are held by the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, the Musée du Grand-Hornu, the Centre Georges Pompidou and MoMA, and the studio has received the Swiss Design Award, the Hublot Design Prize and the Design Preis Schweiz MERIT award.
