Biography
Background
Alain Gilles was born in 1970 in Brussels, Belgium. He studied Political Sciences and Marketing Management and worked in the international financial world for five years before returning to study industrial design in France, with the moral support of his wife. His studio opened in late 2007 to pursue product design, furniture design, art direction and scenography.
Collaborations
His studio works with international editors in France, Italy, Belgium and the United Kingdom, including Ligne Roset, Bonaldo, BuzziSpace, Casamania, Greenmood and Saba Italia.
Awards and juries
Interieur Kortrijk named him Designer of the Year in 2012. His Welded table for Bonaldo won the Red Dot Best of the Best in 2013, and the Good Design Award went to his Big Table for Bonaldo in 2009 and to the Hashira table for Ligne Roset in 2023. He has also served as president of the Concretition international concrete public furniture award in 2021.
At Ligne Roset
Ligne Roset's designer page lists the Geoffrey mirror and clothes stand, the Hashira dining table and the Saragosse occasional and low tables under his name. His studio dates Saragosse to 2020 and describes its base as inspired by brutalist architecture and motorway bridges.
