Origin

The Weekday Collection is a set of outdoor benches and tables designed by Hannes & Fritz for HAY, with a design year of 2023. The idea started at a dinner party, where the designers built a primitive bench for want of enough seats; they later modified it and made it into a collection of outdoor tables and benches. The idea of bringing people together stayed, and the collection is reminiscent of the familiar picnic table and bench.

Design Language

Their presence is solid and robust, and softly rounded joints give them a warm, familiar feel that invites shared dining and a social atmosphere. They follow the construction of the classic picnic table and bench and are made of strong, durable pine planks that patinate and are intended to last for many years. The pine is solid wood with a water-based, weather-resistant surface treatment, a primer and a two-layer coating, and it has been dried to a humidity specifically for outdoor use. The wood is FSC-certified, the collection is qualified for contract use, and it is made in different finishes and colour options: the 111 cm bench comes in five finishes and the other benches and tables in three.

Solid pine was chosen to make the pieces extremely durable, so that you can sit, stand or even dance on the tables and benches. Weekday is designed as a knock-down solution that needs only screw assembly, with pre-assembled leg sections, seats and tops. Benches can be supplemented with seat cushions in selected textiles for extra comfort.
