Collection Story

Origin

Kartell identifies Smatrik as a family of seats by Tokujin Yoshioka. The armchair entered the range in 2018; the stool followed in 2019.

Design Language

The family develops a three-dimensional net through injection moulding. Kartell explains that transparent or mass-dyed polycarbonate is layered into one moulded structure, giving the appearance of an intersecting metal mesh. Painted or chrome-plated frames support the indoor pieces, while outdoor versions use painted stainless steel.

Key Pieces

The range covers an armchair, outdoor chair and rocking chair, then adds indoor and outdoor stools. Across their specifications, the current seat material is polycarbonate 2.0 made with renewable raw material.
