Description
Overview
Kartell's data sheet dates the Smatrik Stool to 2019 and credits Tokujin Yoshioka. The product page says the stool joins the family of seats created by Yoshioka and is made with a mould that recreates a 3D net which overlaps and crosses over.
Construction
The seat is polycarbonate 2.0 on the sheet, in transparent or mass-dyed versions, with a renewable raw material behind it. The frame is painted or chrome-plated steel, and painted stainless steel in the outdoor version, code 5882.

Story
A net moulded in one piece
Kartell's page explains that a special injection technology layers transparent or mass-dyed polycarbonate into a structure that is moulded in a single piece and simulates a metallic net. The mould allows the net to be recreated in three dimensions, with threads that overlap and cross.

Indoor and outdoor frames
The same seat is paired with a painted or chrome-plated steel frame for indoor use, and with a painted stainless steel frame for the outdoor version, which the sheet lists as its own code.
