Collection Story

Origin

The Rey Collection is a family of chairs, stools and tables that HAY presents with the Swiss manufacturer Dietiker. HAY dates the original collection to 1971 and credits it to the Swiss designer Bruno Rey. The collection grew out of one stackable chair that Dietiker put into mass production in 1971 at Stein am Rhein, first named 3300; in HAY's account it later became known simply as Rey.

What the family shares

HAY's 2022 news page says the collection keeps its unified silhouette and its screwless production process, and that a solid composition with rounded edges ties every piece together. Compared with the classic designs, the pieces were updated in new dimensions. Colours are the original ones plus new tones chosen by HAY, and the chair and bar stool can also be ordered with an upholstered seat.
