Origin
Nerd is a family of 2011 that the Berlin-based designer David Geckeler designed for Muuto, according to his studio's project page: a chair and barstool collection in lacquered ash with form-pressed veneer shells and solid-wood legs. Muuto lists the Nerd Chair, a Bar Stool at 75 cm and a Counter Stool at 65 cm. A Muuto story says the chair won the Muuto Talent Award in 2011, with the bar stool joining it in 2013.
Design Language
Back and seat are integrated and meet in a slot in the backrest, which Geckeler calls the iconic detail. Turning the bent veneer shell of the seat upside down, he says, gives an almost pillow-like look.
