Collection Story

Origin

Kartell's Museo timeline tells how Antonio Citterio, with Oliver Löw, started in 1991 with two home trolleys, Battista and Gastone. The drawer units of the Mobil series later won the Compasso d'Oro award, in 1994, and the jury's reasons contrast the metal of the frame with the clear coloured plastic of the drawers.

Design Language

Mobil is a system built on one element, the drawer, alternated with intermediate shelves and tops. On the Kartell data sheet the frame is steel with a chrome-plated finish, while the drawers and shelves are a batch-dyed thermosetting material that resists scratches and knocks. Handles are optional, and the units stand on castors or on fixed feet.

Key Pieces

  • Chests of drawers with between two and six drawers, listed on Kartell's collection page, on fixed feet or on wheels
  • A three-drawer unit with one shelf on wheels
  • Mobil MAT, which Kartell lists on the same collection page
