Origin
Develius is Edward van Vliet's idea of the archetypal modular sofa, first launched by &Tradition in 2018. The page calls it buildable and versatile, a lounge piece that prioritises comfort without sacrificing definitive form and aesthetic.
Design Language
The parts of the system run from a pouf through sofas of one to six seats to a corner sofa and a chaise longue, each in two depths. Sofas and chaise longue can be left open-ended, and the armrest is either an informal low-set one or, as the latest addition, a more formal high-set one. In the press release for the coffee table, van Vliet says the Develius family is about creating environments that can be endlessly personalised.
