Collection Story
Origin
Déjà-vu is the Magis family designed by Naoto Fukasawa. The Magis catalogue introduces it through the stool: a simple, highly iconic stool with a die-cast aluminium seat and extruded aluminium legs, offered polished or painted, the painted version being suitable for outdoor use. The stool is dated 2005 on its Magis page, the chair 2007 and the mirrors 2011.
Design Language
According to the catalogue, the forms of the stool give a reassuring sense of familiarity, inspired by the classic wooden stool but produced from a D-shaped extruded aluminium profile, a solution devised by Fukasawa together with Magis. The catalogue places the minimalist look in the Super Normal category that Fukasawa created with Jasper Morrison, and quotes Issey Miyake describing the name as the sensation of having been there before.
Key Pieces
The Magis site lists the stool in high, medium and low bar heights, the aluminium chair with polished legs, seat and back, and mirrors with an extruded aluminium frame in five sizes. The catalogue says the pieces can be placed alone or together with the seat, the table and the mirrors of the same family.
