Collection Story
Origin
Ceiba is a series by Luis Arrivillaga for Living Divani, listed under the brand's Complements. It began with the Ceiba coat hanger, dated 2016. The Ceiba Screen, a room divider inspired by the coat hanger, won the Wallpaper Design Awards 2018 in the category "Best Uchi Room divider", named best product of the year.
Design Language
Both pieces are made in ash. The coat hanger is a graphical presence, thin frames that shut and open again around one pivot, which gives different points of view and ways of use. It is made in solid natural or charcoal-dyed ash, and it pays homage to ancient woodworking techniques that turn it into an exercise in geometry. In the Screen the wooden frames come in natural or dark-dyed ash and carry pure white linen canvas, which outlines an area out of reach, a place to hide that leaves room for shadows and for imagination.
Key Pieces
The series has two pieces, the Ceiba coat hanger and the Ceiba Screen. The coat hanger uses four C-shaped elements of various heights on a central pin, and the Screen hangs canvas from wooden frames. Arrivillaga graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 2005, moved to Milan to complete Masters in Industrial Design and in Interior Design, and opened his own studio there in 2011.
