Ceiba Coat Hanger

Overview

Ceiba is a coat hanger designed by Luis Arrivillaga in 2016. Four "C-shaped" elements of various heights join around a central pin, and it is presented as a graphical presence: a dance of slender structures that close and reopen around a central linchpin.

Construction

The structure is solid ash wood, Ø30 mm, cut by a CNC machine and then finished by hand, in natural colour with an acrylic water-based finish, or charcoal-dyed or tobacco-dyed with an acrylic painting finish. The central pin works as a "compass" opening, so each element can take various positions; the recommended opening angle between elements is 90°. Spacer rings of Ø30 mm sit between the elements and are made of black phosphate coated steel. Plastic tips provide the floor support.

A coat hanger of four elements that open like a compass

Luis Arrivillaga designed Ceiba in 2016. Ash structure and steel rings

Machining by CNC and manual finishing give the Ø30 mm solid ash structure its final form. Black phosphate coated steel rings of the same Ø30 mm diameter separate the elements, and the opening angle recommended between them is 90°. Natural, charcoal-dyed and tobacco-dyed ash are the three structure finishes.
