Collection Story
Origin
Bolero is a family of tables that Roberto Lazzeroni designed for Poltrona Frau, in round and rectangular formats. Lazzeroni was born in Pisa and studied art and architecture in Florence, where he developed a growing personal interest in conceptual art and radical design. His professional debut came in the early 1980s with a series of important Interior Architecture works, which Italian and international magazines noticed and published.
One member of the family, the Bolero Ravel, has a musical reference: Lazzeroni was clearly inspired by Ravel's hypnotic Bolero when he drew a sleek table whose heavy materials still give an impression of floating.
Design Language
The tables are sleek and elegant, with light lines, and the effect of the whole is subtle and airy. The rectangular and round tables rest on a solid wood structure with a characteristic triangular cross-section, in finishes that include Canaletto walnut and ash stained wenge, and its anchoring plates and spacers are black-painted steel.
On wooden tops, large wood tiles make a surface of horizontal and vertical grain that differs each time, in Canaletto walnut or ash stained wenge, worked in a cross-grain inlay. Marble tops, available on the rectangular table and the smaller round table, have a bevelled edge and a technical mesh under the stone, in brilliant or semi-brilliant surfaces. The Ravel changes the top into one barrel-shaped marble slab whose edges taper, with bevels that slant up on the two short sides and down on the two long sides, above a self-supporting trestle base with three legs of triangular section.
