Collection Story
Origin
Aalto Tables are Artek's family of tables designed by Alvar Aalto. The collection page dates the rectangular, square, round, half-round and foldable tables to 1933 and the extendable table to 1956, and presents the newest arrival as the Aalto foldable table, "returning to the Artek collection".
Design Language
Artek describes legs and edge-bands of Finnish birch and a top in birch veneer, linoleum or laminate. It says the tables move easily between public and private spheres, in line with Aalto's idea of versatile furniture. Artek says tables of differing shapes can be placed together in many configurations, and it publishes an overview sheet of shapes, sizes and surfaces with combination examples.
