Description
Overview
Aalto Table extendable (Table 97) is a rectangular table by Alvar Aalto that Artek dates 1956. With an extension leaf it grows from 135 cm to 190 cm in length at a depth of 85 cm.
Construction
Solid birch makes the legs and the band around the top edge. Under the surface, the core is solid birch, chipboard or honeycomb; the surface is birch veneer or high-pressure laminate.

Story
The extension leaf
Artek presents the Aalto 97 extendable table as the answer to ever-changing dining requirements: the same rectangular table serves a smaller gathering or a larger dinner party once the extension leaf is added.

On Artek's Aalto Tables collection page the extendable table is the one type dated 1956; the other five types (rectangular, square, round, half-round and foldable) carry 1933.
