Brand Story
Heritage
Roche Bobois is the story of two families, the Roches and the Chouchans. In 1950 Jacques Roche bought the old Alexandre Dumas theatre on rue de Lyon in Paris and built two stores; his sons Philippe and François began distributing the best contemporary furniture. The Chouchans, meanwhile, sold furniture on Boulevard Sébastopol at "Au Beau Bois", later Bobois. In 1960, at the Copenhagen furniture salon, François and Philippe Roche met Patrick and Jean-Claude Chouchan; together they designed a first joint catalogue that launched a national franchise, and in 1961 a first nationwide advertising campaign in Elle magazine. From then on, roche bobois became a brand name.
Philosophy
Roche Bobois presents itself as a celebration of French art de vivre around the world. It offers exclusive, made-to-order designs with a high level of customisation, manufactured in small European workshops, and works closely with designers, architects, artists and haute couture houses. The brand also commits to developing eco-designed collections and reducing the environmental impact of existing ones.

Iconic Works
In the 1970s, as television made the sofa a household must-have, sofas became the core of the "Les Contemporains" collection, and Hans Hopfer's Mah Jong (1971) became the brand's most recognised design. The 1980s brought "Les Provinciales", the 1990s "Les Voyages". In 2010, for its 50th anniversary, Roche Bobois began a partnership with Jean Paul Gaultier; for its 60th it introduced Bombom by Joana Vasconcelos.

Today
Roche Bobois describes itself as a world leader in furniture design and distribution, with around 265 showrooms worldwide, collaborations with Marcel Wanders, Kenzo Takada, Ora Ito, Sacha Lakic, Christophe Delcourt, Stephen Burks and others, a store in Sydney marking its presence on five continents, and a strengthened position in China.
