Overview
Tube Lounge Chair is designed by Simon Legald, Normann Copenhagen's Danish head designer, who drew on the Memphis design style of 1980s Italy. The manufacturer calls it an unconventional take on the classic lounge chair.
Construction
Two oversized glass blasted stainless steel tubes form the frame and bend to follow the curvature of the padded seat. Inside is a plywood frame covered with foam and wadding, finished in leather or textile upholstery. It is delivered assembled.
Specifications
74 x 93 x 96 cm (W x D x H, SKU 713604); seat height 33 cm; weight 20 kg.
Story
From Memphis to Danish minimalism
Normann Copenhagen says Tube draws on the Memphis style, which is known for bold shapes and geometric lines. The manufacturer calls the chair a marriage of those playful references and the minimalism of its Danish heritage, with contrasting shapes and materials.
Soft and solid
The page puts the interplay of soft and solid elements at the heart of the design: bent tubes follow the curve of a generously padded seat, and the extended backrest lets the sitter rest the head.
