Description
Overview
TMM is a floor lamp designed by Miguel Milá in 1961 and edited by Santa & Cole (product code 414). The product page says Milá distilled the three basic elements of any lamp, structure, electrical components and shade. TMM stands for Tramo Móvil en Madera (Moveable Section in Wood); Santa & Cole calls this member of the TM family the relaxed alternative, the 'blue jeans' version of the collection.
Construction
The stem starts at a cross-shaped base with a square profile that turns circular halfway up. The bulb socket sits in a lightweight frame, and the shade turns on its axis and slides to the chosen height, held by a rubber ring. The light is switched on and off by a gentle tug on the cable.

Story
Created at 25
The product page says TMM was created by Miguel Milá when he was just 25 years old and calls it perhaps the most celebrated work of this pioneer of Spanish industrial design. The data sheet adds that Milá declared it his favourite.
The first design Santa & Cole edited
Both the page and the sheet say TMM was Milá's first collaboration with Santa & Cole, launched in 1986, twenty-five years after its creation. The sheet calls it "our joint beginning", when the company was able to revitalise the lamp after twenty-five years of life, and describes a lamp made with minimal use of components that is easily assembled and maintained throughout its very long life.
