Story

A nod to De Stijl

Theo nods to Theo van Doesburg, who founded De Stijl magazine in Leiden in 1917 with Piet Mondrian. Patricia Urquiola reads the early twentieth-century avant-garde through the table, removing decoration step by step.

Pastel tones and neoplasticism

Here Urquiola moves away from pure colour in favour of pastel tones. The construction borrows from neoplasticism, projecting a mini-architecture in scale. A wall becomes a partition that breaks up the space and reduces it to an abstract geometric sign, balanced between full and empty, positive and negative.

A glass top over the structure

The result is a structure with a glass top, through which the eye and the light can pass into the space within.
