Organic shell and slender frame
Audo dates The Penguin Dining Chair to 1953 and names Ib Kofod-Larsen as its creator. Its large, organically shaped seat and back contrast with a petite powder-coated steel frame. The back curves toward the sitter and ends in the design's characteristic flipper-like arms.
Selected US configuration
The priced representative is Natural Oak / Re-wool 218, SKU 71157-004800. Audo publishes overall dimensions of 56 cm wide × 57 cm deep × 83 cm high, with a 47 cm seat height and 66 cm armrest height.
Story
A chair introduced to the United States
Audo says the design was also known as the Ib Kofod-Larsen Chair when launched in the United States. The manufacturer presents it as the designer's signature, using the contrast between an oversized shell and narrow frame to give the dining chair an immediately recognisable profile.
Support through shape
The official description attributes comfort to the moulded back, which follows the body. The dining version is offered with natural oak or walnut veneer and a powder-coated steel frame, with either a wood seat or optional upholstery.
