Overview
The Elizabeth Lounge Chair is a lounge chair designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen for Audo Copenhagen. Audo says it was originally called the Model U56 and was later dubbed the Elizabeth Chair after Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip purchased two of them during an official visit to Denmark. The page names its sculpted armrests, leather-upholstered low seat and sleigh-like back, and calls it a prime example of Danish Modern.
Construction
The materials list gives oak or walnut, plastic, steel, solid beech, plywood, foam, felt, quilt foam, pocket springs and rubber. According to Audo's product sheet, the CNC-milled solid oak or walnut parts are sanded and hand-oiled, and the inner plywood components are layered with foam ready for the final upholstery.

Story
Model U56 and the Elizabeth name
Audo's page says the chair was originally called the Model U56 and was later dubbed the Elizabeth Chair after Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip purchased two of them during an official visit to Denmark. Audo calls it well-proportioned and well designed, with a majestic elegance that underpins its royal name.
Seat, back and arms
The page picks out the sculpted armrests, the leather-upholstered low seat and the sleigh-like back as the features that make it a prime example of Danish Modern. Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921-2003) is described by Audo as a designer who often used teak, palisander and leather.
