Description

Overview

The Canvas Chair (Model 2031) is a lounge chair that Børge Mogensen designed in 1970, one of his last pieces before his death in 1972. Fredericia describes it as an enduring design in which material, shape and functionality are calibrated to equilibrium. Size: 74 cm wide, 65.5 cm deep, 76 cm high, seat height 37 cm, armrest height 54 cm; weight 8.3 kg.

Construction

Linen canvas forms the seat and back, suspended between conic pieces of solid oak, and the page calls the oak base angular and almost constructivist. Fredericia's sheet lists solid wood and canvas as the materials, the canvas being a 100% linen seat and back that can be exchanged.

Story

One of the last designs

According to Fredericia, Børge Mogensen designed The Canvas Chair in 1970 as one of his last pieces before his untimely passing in 1972. The text stresses clearly recognisable materials and shapes: a soft linen counterpart in the seat and back set against a base of solid oak.

Covers that can be replaced

In the product impact section Fredericia says the furniture is designed with interchangeable fabric covers that can be renewed after unexpected damage. It also says the oak comes from responsibly managed FSC®-certified forests and other controlled sources, and that the solid wood gains a patina with good care.

Projects named on the page

The page names two projects in which the chair has been chosen: a home in Copenhagen and Restaurant Kadeau on Bornholm, both in Denmark.
