Construction

The three fan-shaped X-legs are solid birch; each X-leg is made from five wedge-cut pieces of L-legs. The seat top is a curly birch veneer applied with a marquetry technique. Two models exist, one entirely honey-stained and one with clear-lacquered legs.

Story

The X-leg of 1954

Artek says the fan-shaped X-leg was first shown at Nordiska Kompaniet's Konstruktiv Form exhibition of Artek furniture in Stockholm in 1954, and that it grew out of the L-leg Aalto developed with the master carpenter Otto Korhonen.

A gem from the archive

For its 90th anniversary Artek brings Stool X602 into the collection only as a limited edition of ninety stools per model; both variants on the page belong to that edition.
