Souvenir Italie Sofa

Overview

The Souvenir d'Italie sofa is the two-seater outdoor sofa of the collection by Ludovica Serafini + Roberto Palomba. The page names its character as lightness and informal comfort, built from two outdoor archetypes: metal and woven belts.

Construction

The frame is extruded aluminium, three oval-section longitudinal beams forming an "L", wrapped in polypropylene elastic belts that support the cushions. Its feet are cast aluminium ending in black nylon caps. Seat and armrest cushions use open-cell polyurethane foam of different densities with a polypropylene cover; backrest cushions use polyester fibre. Upholstery is Pelle Frau® Outdoor or outdoor fabric, with a fully removable fabric cover.

Belts, feet and cylinders

Poltrona Frau's page says the polypropylene belts punctuate the seat and backrest with full and empty spaces and that the cast aluminium feet make the sofa appear suspended off the ground. The page adds that the armrests, simplified into two cylinders, are meant to evoke a garden bench.

The designers

Poltrona Frau's page says Ludovica Serafini + Roberto Palomba founded Palomba Serafini Studio in Milan in 1994 and work across architecture, interior, industrial, fashion and yacht design. The sheet lists the sofa in a two-seater and a large two-seater size.
