Modular seating
SHIRAZ is a modular sofa by Philipp Mainzer and Farah Ebrahimi. Seats, cushions and back components can be combined into varied arrangements and joined with the e15 sofa connector.
Upholstered construction
The frame uses solid beech and plywood, with wave springs beneath polyether foam seating. Backrests combine wood and foam, cushions use feather and polyester-fibre filling, and fabric covers are removable.
Heights and modules
The system offers 380 or 480 mm seat heights. Selected modules use 1250 mm high backrests, and the backrests are demountable.
Story
Persian and Western references
Designed in 2006, SHIRAZ takes its stated inspiration from loosely joined Persian seating islands that support communication and from seating found in Western salons and hotel lobbies.
A flexible system
Mainzer and Ebrahimi translated those references into a system of separate seating elements, cushions and back parts. e15 describes the result as balancing modern and traditional elements while allowing different backrests and seats to be combined through a dedicated connector.
