Description

Overview

The round sofa Scarlett carries the name of Jean-Marie Massaud as designer. The product sheet calls it a sofa which is also a chaise-lounge, a welcoming and comfortable nest, and says its circular form is an invitation to relax.

Construction

A burnished and brushed steel ring supports a system of saddle-leather belts that works as armrest and backrest. The seat frame is seasoned beech, and eight one-way castors let the sofa turn through 360°. The seat is padded with goose down over polyurethane foam, and the backrest cushions are goose down.

Specifications

  • Round sofa, 5588800: Ø 160 cm (W 160 cm, D 160 cm), H 87.5 cm (the height is not labelled on the drawing)
  • Backrest cushions: three movable cushions come with the sofa; optional cushions are 47 x 47 cm and 75 x 45 cm

Story

A circular shape for Massaud

According to the sheet, the circular form of Scarlett is a project in line with the style of Jean-Marie Massaud, who likes to combine architectural geometries with full, soft volumes. The sheet also describes the sofa as a nest, a place that is welcoming and comfortable.

Belts and a swivelling seat

The page describes the saddle-leather belts as a grid that holds the padded seat and acts as both armrest and backrest. The sheet gives the belts as Saddle Extra leather, held taut by a horizontal crosspiece in saddle leather that is kept in place by loops and fixed with buttons bearing the logo. The base turns the sofa through 360° but is not made for moving it.
