Description

Overview

The 1989 Saruyama by Toshiyuki Kita is formed from three free-standing moulded elements. Combined, the elements create one large circular seating island. It carries configurator code SY004N, corresponding to three-element sofa code 04N.

Construction

Each seat uses cold-injected polyurethane over an internal plywood base. Upholstery remains fixed on every element. Standard cushioning is supplied to CAL TB 117 without added retardants, while a BS 5852 crib 5 specification is documented.

Specifications

  • Code: SY004N / 04N
  • Composition: three free-standing seating elements
  • Padding: cold-injected polyurethane
  • Internal base: plywood
  • Weight: 255 kg

Story

Three elements, one island

Saruyama turns three independent seats into a single circular landscape. Toshiyuki Kita's arrangement allows the moulded profiles to meet as a continuous island while each component retains its own free-standing structure.

Structure beneath the upholstery

Cold-injected polyurethane shapes the visible seating contours above concealed plywood bases. Fixed covers preserve the uninterrupted surfaces across the three forms, with standard and fire-resistant foam options.
