Description

Overview

The Sanluca armchair was designed in 1961 by the brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Poltrona Frau describes it as an armchair that removes the traditional padding to leave only the curves that are strictly necessary for support, with an extremely comfortable double profile of great formal power.

Story

Turning construction upside down

According to the product sheet, the Sanluca armchair turns the traditional constructive logic upside down. It empties out the traditional padding to lay bare the essential curves that are strictly necessary for optimal support, and the sheet calls the result an ergonomic profile with a strong formal impact.

Still cutting-edge

Poltrona Frau's page presents Sanluca as an extraordinary example of Italian design at its very zenith, ergonomic and cutting-edge today, with a double profile that seems to envelop the body perfectly. Both texts say it can be accompanied by an ottoman designed by Achille Castiglioni in 1991, which the page calls the Sanluca pouf and the sheet the Luca ottoman.
