Description
Overview
The S 60 is a cantilever chair with armrests by Glen Oliver Löw, listed on Thonet's page with the year 2001. Thonet presents it as a contemporary reinterpretation of the cantilever chair for contract use and for the home. The range includes the S 60 with a comfort cushion, the fully upholstered S 60 V, stackable versions marked ST, and the S 61 with a higher backrest.
Construction
The seat shell is moulded plywood and is connected to the tubular steel frame through the armrests. The armrests are covered with a soft plastic material, taper towards the back and join the seat shell there. Milled openings in the backrest are described as improving air circulation and giving the back a visual structure. The tube diameter is reduced to a minimum.

Story
The S 60, 2001
Thonet's page gives 2001 as the year of the S 60 and credits it to Glen Oliver Löw. The designer's own website lists "2001 / S60 / Thonet" in its products list.
Reinterpreting the cantilever chair
According to Thonet, Löw reinterpreted the cantilever chair for the S 60 and developed a contemporary version, combining reserved elegance with high seating comfort. Reducing the tubular steel to a minimum diameter makes the chair lightweight and gives it an elegant, clear appearance.
