Description
Low-back lounge chair
Pilot is a swivel lounge chair whose cantilevered seat uses a flexible upholstery substructure. The four-star base turns through 360 degrees.
Construction
Knoll specifies a die-cast aluminium base, moulded polyurethane foam, knit-backed polyester fibre and an internal structure combining steel, die-cast aluminium and elastic webbing.
Story
Barber and Osgerby's Pilot
Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby designed Pilot as a lounge chair with visual and material lightness. Knoll describes the seat as appearing to float above the base.
Low-back versions
The official specification identifies armless, loop-arm and upholstered-arm versions, plus an ottoman. Upholstery may be split across the seat, back and upholstered arms, while fabric and leather are not mixed within one chair.
