Story

A chair held together by one element

The Magis page describes Pila as a stacking chair whose seat and back are ash plywood and whose legs are solid ash. A die-cast aluminium joining element links these parts, sanded or painted in epoxy resin. The page lists the joining element as sanded for four of the five frame colours and black for the black frame.

Wood finishes and upholstery

The technical sheet lists the frame in five finishes, from natural 7018 to black 7065. A second version of the sheet adds a fully upholstered seat covered in Kvadrat Divina 3 or Divina MD fabric. The designers are credited on the page as Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2013, and the page quotes them: the fundamental role of design is to give shape to culture.
