Overview
Pawson Drift Tables are low occasional tables designed by John Pawson. A narrow shadow gap separates the top from the solid-wood base, creating the appearance of a floating upper plane.
Construction
Herman Miller lists stone or solid-wood tops with oak or walnut bases. The range contains rectangular and square coffee tables plus a taller square side table.
Specifications
The representative rectangular coffee table measures 60 in wide, 28 in deep, and 9.2 in high. The square coffee table is 45 by 45 in at the same height; the side table is 18 in cubed.
Story
Solid and void
John Pawson describes the relationship between the table's mass and its shadow gap as a dialogue between solid and void. Herman Miller uses that junction as the defining detail across the three table formats.
Connected to the Drift seating
The product page places the tables within Pawson's Drift work and quotes him on the shared concerns of space, mass, rhythm, shadow, and proportion. Pawson says the details of the sofa and table designs shed light on one another.
