Story
Drift among the clouds
GUBI describes Paulin's earliest sketches as imagining sitting as a sensation, expressed through rounded forms that seem to float and hold the body with ease. From that idea came a way of sitting that is low, generous and free from convention. The Pacha form drifts between inside and out and touches the ground only lightly.
Low-level living
According to GUBI, Paulin drew the chair in step with the changing design style of the 1970s, replacing the austerity of post-war design with a vigorous new approach. He raised the chair lightly on its base and traced the foam and upholstery with stitching lines inclined inwards. GUBI adds that pieces like this one pioneered low-level living, sitting on the floor level by getting rid of chair legs.
