Description

Overview

The MBRACE Lounge Chair is the low-back lounger in DEDON's MBRACE outdoor collection by Sebastian Herkner. DEDON calls it a true DEDON classic, known for its inviting, organic form and its modern mix of woven fiber and teak. The extra-wide back wraps around the sitter, and the shell is shaped to stay comfortable even without its cushion.

Construction

The seat shell is handwoven DEDON Fiber in an open, mesh-like triaxial pattern. The standard version stands on a solid teak base. A die-cast aluminum base is offered as a separate version (MBRACE ALU). The colorways were developed with colorist Giulio Ridolfo. An optional seat cushion is available in DEDON outdoor fabrics.

Specifications

  • Dimensions: W 107 × D 84 × H 78 cm
  • Seat height: 35 cm to the woven seat, plus an 8 cm cushion
  • Fiber colors: Pepper, Alloro, Sea Salt, Baltic, Arabica, Chestnut
  • Cushion fabrics: NATURA, CALEO, TUCSON, GAIA, MUSE, NUBE, BORNEO (DEDON outdoor fabric families)

Story

The gesture of an embrace

Sebastian Herkner wanted to use the traditional technique of weaving "to create a strong design that was like a gesture—the gesture of embracing someone." The extra-wide back of MBRACE gives a warm, cocooning feeling, especially after a swim. Herkner also wanted the chair to be comfortable late in the season, after the cushions have been stored away.

Fiber meets teak

According to Herkner's studio, MBRACE was its 2016 collection for DEDON. It was the first time DEDON brought DEDON Fiber seating and a solid teak base together. With colorist Giulio Ridolfo, Herkner and DEDON first developed three colorways, Spice, Pepper and Atlantic, for a triaxial weave of three fibers, each with its own profile and color. The palette has grown since then, and an aluminum base was added later.
