Story
From hand-painted chair to moulded polyethylene
Mendini calls the Proust armchair a romantic, baroque chair covered in multi-coloured dots applied by hand with the pointillism technique, on both the fabric and the wooden decorations. He describes it as a re-design work, a combination of a mock-antique armchair with a detail from a painting of a garden by the French artist Signac.
An industrial version
From 1978 onwards, Mendini writes, the Proust armchair was produced in many versions, with different colours, materials and dimensions, and was even made of ceramics and bronze. Magis Proust turns it into an industrial rotational-moulded piece, a paradox come true that brings new energy in colours and atmospheres.
