Description

Overview

Johns, Rodolfo Dordoni's bookcase for Minotti, is built around a frame that is simple and modular. The single-bay version has three open openings between four shelves and measures 180 x 40 x 174 cm (W x D x H).

Construction

The side panels and shelves are 70 mm honeycomb wood, joined with metal bushings, and the unit stands on adjustable metal feet with protective felt glides. Veneered and lacquered versions share this structure: oak veneer in an open-pore stained Tobacco finish, matt Canaletto Walnut, composite ebony with a glossy transparent polyester finish, matt lacquer and glossy lacquer.

Specifications

  • Size: 180 x 40 x 174 cm (W x D x H)
  • Frame: honeycomb wood, 70 mm thick
  • Joints: metal bushings between side panels and shelves
  • Feet: adjustable metal with felt glides

Story

Two ideas: simplicity and thickness

Johns rests on two ideas. The frame is oriented to simplicity and modularity, with no bombast in the form, and its 70 mm thickness works almost as a metaphor for its character, suggesting durability and stability.

A bookcase that widened its range

Johns has proved successful enough to have opened up to a diversity of design performances and finishes over time. A 2012 addition is oak veneer in an open-pore stained Tobacco finish.
