Janis

Overview

Janis is described by Minotti as a sculptural and decorative screen for the home, a micro-architecture composed of shaped geometric forms that are repeated in space and become its hallmark. An interplay of joins gives it a pattern with movement and three-dimensionality.

Construction

• Panels: contoured vertical MDF panels, 30 mm thick, in a glossy lacquer finish in four colours; each vertical panel rotates 160 degrees
• Joints: metal joint connectors, with the panels kept apart by anchors coated in stainless steel
• Feet: adjustable ABS feet

Rounded components and light

The page says every component of Janis has rounded edges that exalt its aesthetic plasticity, and that the glossy lacquered finish enhances the dramatic effect by welcoming the light as it refracts between the solids and voids of the frame.

Minotti gives Janis a bold identity on the edge between art and design, and calls it extremely functional, able to meet the contemporary need for dynamic living spaces. The structure's panels turn 160 degrees, so the screen can take different shapes.
