Overview
Gomma is Zanotta armchair 840, designed in 1970 by the trio credited on the manufacturer's page. Its rounded, upholstered body is supported by a multilayer wood frame and solid beech feet.
Suspension and padding
Elastic strips provide the suspension. The removable padding uses polyurethane foam made with vegetable-based polyoils, and the outer fabric cover can also be removed.
Assembly
Zanotta specifies glue-free assembly. The current specification combines this construction with removable padding and a removable fabric cover.
Story
A design from 1970
Zanotta places Gomma in the cultural and social setting of the 1970s, when designers were testing new directions and moving away from established conventions. The manufacturer describes the chair as an enduring symbol of modern design.
Present construction
The current specification combines a multilayer wooden structure, elastic suspension and solid beech feet with removable polyurethane padding and fabric. Glue-free assembly is a defining detail of this edition.
