Circular upholstered form
The Girard Color Wheel Ottoman is a low, round upholstered piece designed by Alexander Girard. Herman Miller presents it as a footrest, occasional seat, or coffee table, with a segmented top that gives the circular form its graphic identity.
Construction and dimensions
The current official store lists polished aluminum legs, a polyurethane foam cushion over an MDF top, upholstery containing 78% wool and 22% nylon, and overall dimensions of 36 inches in diameter by 12 inches high. An older 2022 product sheet instead states 15 inches high.
Story
Original release
Herman Miller's product sheet identifies 1967 as the original release of the Color Wheel Ottoman. An official Herman Miller history article places it among Alexander Girard's furniture designs commercialised as the Girard Group.
Graphic composition
The manufacturer describes the design as playful, colourful, and graphic. Its wedge-shaped upholstered sections turn a simple round platform into a strong visual composition while the low format supports several functions.
