Overview
Genni is Zanotta lounge chair 920, designed by Gabriele Mucchi in 1935 and brought into the Zanotta catalogue as a re-edition in 1982. Its seat adjusts between two positions.
Frame and suspension
Bent tubular steel forms the structure. Zanotta offers chromium plating, natural or black nickel-satin finishes, and orange or black painted options. Steel springs provide the suspension.
Upholstered elements
Polyurethane forms the seat cushion and headrest. Leather covers the cushions and armrests, while the steel frame remains visually distinct from the suspended seating surface.
Story
Rationalist origins
Zanotta relates Genni to the opportunities that bent, chromium-plated steel offered designers associated with Rationalist architecture. Mucchi designed the chair in 1935, when modern furniture production was opening new technical possibilities.
Return to production
The chair entered Zanotta's catalogue in 1982 among its re-editions. The manufacturer highlights its formal elegance and continuing contemporaneity, qualities carried by the spare tubular frame and adjustable seat.
