Description

Overview

Daystak Side Chair RD1 is a stackable side chair by Robin Day, dated 1951 and produced by &Tradition. It is one of three pieces in the Daystak Collection, which also holds a table and a desk.

Construction

Solid beech frame, cut by CNC. Seat, back and back supports are laminated veneer layers pressed to shape with glue and trimmed by CNC; the chair is then sanded and the frame glued together. Five chairs stack.

Story

Built for stacking

&Tradition describes the Daystak Side Chair as a chair conceived around stacking: a study in useful function and plain form. In its words, the construction is more complex than the minimalist mid-century outline suggests, and it reads that as the designer's dedication to craft.

Beech and veneer

The fact sheet names solid beech together with beech and walnut veneer, and states that no biocide treatment has been applied. The two variants listed are Beech and Beech & Walnut.
