Description

Overview

The Daybed 2 seat settee with black lacquered steel feet is a small settee with an integral low table, designed by Pierre Paulin in 1953. With the two back cushions positioned on the low table as an extension of the seat cushion, it becomes a large banquette seating three to four people, or an occasional bed for one.

Construction

The seat is solid beech and solid American walnut in a satin varnished natural wood finish, reinforced with a mechanically soldered steel structure, on black lacquered steel feet. A steel chassis with elastic webbing mounted across its depth forms the suspension. Seat and back cushions are multi-density, high resilience Bultex polyurethane foam (dominant 38 kg/m³, 3.6 kPa), wrapped in 110 g/m² polyester quilting. Baguette stitching is used on the cushions, whose covers are removable. Twenty covering materials are offered.

Specifications

Overall size: W 2,050 x D 820 x H 845 mm, seat height 430 mm, two places, weight 63 kg.

Story

A revolutionary banquette of the early Fifties

Pierre Paulin's Daybed dates from 1953. It was a revolutionary piece on the French market of the early Fifties, and its minimalist elegance fits today's taste for natural materials and for essential, well-chosen products.

One piece, several uses

The Daybed is designed as a small settee with an integral low table. Moving the two back cushions onto the low table extends the seat cushion into a banquette for three to four people or an occasional bed for one. The original version paired a large ecru seat cushion with two red back cushions, and other combinations are equally possible.
